Tour ends on a high

We said goodbye to a few friends from the first part of the tour but many more arrived for the final and most prestigious weekend. CCI classes for the one and two stars and a CIC class for the three star horses.

Sue Smallman was on hand once again and was as always a great help with the dressage phase. Fraser managed to do a stunning test with Fernhill Revelation, I think Sue gave him the confidence to really go for it this week, he had been a little conservative to date. I was happy with my two but I have to admit i did not do the best job of riding Mayhem, I threw marks away and Sue was not pleased!! Need some pure dressage competitions to get into the swing of the Two star level again.

All our horses were fit and ready following the previous few weeks and found the increased distance of the CCI easy.

I took a wrong turn on Spring and had to do a u-turn so I ended up with a few time penalties but apart from that the XC went smoothly and all horses finished well within themselves.

Revelation pulled up to 3rd place with very little between him and the first two horses. Mayhem was 9th after his fast clear xc and the one star horses were not too far off the pace.

Revelation was as fresh as a daisy on Sunday and after a super clear in the show jumping arena there was tension all round. The first and second placed competitors left poles on the floor so Fraser and Revelation romped into the winners enclosure delighted with themselves. I had a little hic-cup at the combination which dropped me down the order to 13th but I was happy to get this first CCI 2 star behind us and know we can be confident at this level.

boleybawn fernhill was a superstar all weekend and really proved he is up to jumping up a level. He finished a very credible 9th in the 3 star class and looks like he is destined for greater things.

So with mixed feelings we packed up and prepared for our trip home to Ireland. We had heard the weather had improved a lot so that was at least a  bit of a bonus!!

Thanks again to all our friends in Portugal and those that made the trip again this year. We had a ball and look forward to seeing you all somewhere on the circuit later this year.
