Fernhill season finishes in style!

Ballinclough provided us with the perfect finish to the eventing year, with all 6 Fernhill horses on the lorry coming home in the ribbons. Fernhill Bertucelli finished his season on a winning note, taking the CNC* by a large margin. He will upgrade to Intermediate next year and looks an exciting prospect to move through the ranks with Fraser in 2013.

1 star winner

Fernhill’s new jockey Caroline Marwood steered John Glynn’s Shanaclough Mayo to a great win in the CNCJ*. My own Fernhill Boo Radley reminded me again of what a truly special horse he is with a 2nd place in the 4&5 year old Pre Novice. I almost wish there was one more event so that I could run him in the Novice!!

Junior 1 star winner

But the star of the final two competitions of the year has to be Fernhill Flaxon. We decided to move the exciting 6 year old up to 2 star after two impressive runs at Novice level with Fraser. In his first CNC** at Monart he was superb in all 3 phases and took the top spot in a hotly contested section, which included many of the 7 year olds travelling to Le Lion D’Angers! In the OCNC** at Ballinaclough he was a superstar again and finished 3rd!!

With the other 2* horses having their final event at Grove, it gave us the opportunity to take out some of the exciting youngstock that we have at Fernhill. Both Fernhill Galaxy and Fernhill For Sure ran in the Pre Novice sections with Fraser at Monart and Ballinaclough, proving themselves to be very noteworthy prospects, with both taking home ribbons on the final day.

It has been a great season for us at Fernhill, Fraser alone has accrued 19 wins, one third of which are credited to Boleybawn Fernhill who has been victorious at both one and two star level over the course of the year. The son of OBOS Quality singed off his 2012 season in style with another win in his final event at Grove.

In spite of the cancellations in the middle of the season, it has been a busy but successful one for Fernhill. I have no doubt that it will be a busy winter, but we are already looking forward to another enjoyable campaign eventing next year :)
